« Back to Glossary Index

Fixed remuneration established by the State, below which any collective or individual negotiation becomes null. When determining the amount of the SMI, the Government must take into consideration the CPI, national average productivity, the increase of labor’s participation in national income, and the general economic situation. The SMI is the basic reference for determining some items, such as the responsibility of the FOGASA, the advance payment of amounts recognized in judgments, and the minimum contribution bases, among others.
